Campaigning for Change
The Northumberland Advice Network isn't just about ensuring that people get the advice they need when they need it. We are also campaigning to improve policies and practices by sharing your experiences with decision and policy makers. We are particularly keen to hear how you have been affected by benefit changes.

New call for evidence
If you have a story you would like to share with us, please get in touch by contacting sarah.kerrigan@dawnadvice.org.uk .
Have you had difficulty in the location of a medical assessment centre?
The Northumberland Advice Network is calling for evidence from residents in Northumberland who have experienced difficulties with their ESA Work Capability or PIP Assessment in terms of the location of the assessment centre in relation to where they live. These difficulties can be:
- the cost of getting there
- the lack of available transport
- the length of time it would take to do the journey (especially where over 90 minutes)
- the effect that the long journey would have/did have upon their health etc.
- whether home visits are requested / offered
- was the client/service user sanctioned as a result of inability to attend a WCA
We are looking for data gathered in the last twelve months. Have your say and complete our survey here.
JSA Sanctions in Northumberland
The Northumberland Advice Network recently undertook some research to look at the impact that JSA sanctions are having on people in Northumberland.
A discussion paper has been produced which can be found here.
We have also produced a useful leaflet for JSA claimants with suggestions and advice of how to avoid sanction and what to do if sanctions are imposed. A copy of the leaflet can be found here.
Advice for the future
For 75 years, the Citizens Advice Service has provided free, confidential advice and influenced decision makers to make a lasting difference for our clients.
We need support from the public, and in turn from local and national government, for our work to continue.
